Air Stones and Porous Air Line can be used to introduce air to the water tank; water butt or to the roots of the plant. Oxygen is required by the roots the same as CO2 is required by the leaf. Introduce a source of air to the root area and watch your root mass multiply. This technique can "burn" the roots if too much air is forced in to the root mass; so use this resource sparingly.
